Squeezed in some Android fiddling during lunch, and managed to figure out what the layout problems were all about yesterday: if you have an image where the resolution is wider than the screen, it will (for some reason) fill up the whole parent container. Or at least it seems that way. My problems disappeared when shrinking the .png-file to the correct size for my HDPI screen.
I'll keep you posted on further progress (as usual)!
